Our mission is simpler, better strata management for BC.

We’re two friends who work in software. Andrey is a product management leader and a developer by education. Julian comes from the business side of software as a product marketing leader. We met while building cutting-edge products at the same tech company here in Vancouver.

As life went on, our families each moved into townhome stratas, and we both joined council to help our neighbours. What we found were busy inboxes with never-ending threads, attachments to chase down, and the same questions about repairs and amenity bookings, asked over and over. The tools we built at work were state of the art, but stratas hadn’t moved with the times.

We thought this was going to be easy: Just get the right software.

But on a strata budget, nothing out there truly solved the problem. It needed to be:

• one place for everything
• easy to pick up and use
• automate as many tasks as possible
• and with a price that makes sense for smaller stratas

So we set out to build it ourselves.

Why OpenStrata is different

Working in tech taught us one thing early: The most useful software is extremely easy to pick up and use, and it won’t expect users to learn and change their habits first.

So we built OpenStrata differently from everything else that we found in the market: Email requests from owners and contractors keep coming in the way they always have. Just behind the scenes, OpenStrata’s AI turns those messages into cases, tracks progress, and helps council draft replies.

This shifts councils and strata managers from email writers and admin staff to only making an impact as reviewers and approvers.

Today, powerful AI software can take that busywork off their hands. And because we know it’s possible at a cost that makes sense, we built OpenStrata so volunteers (including ourselves!) can spend less time managing email and more time shaping the communities they live in.
